Floating Pool in Brooklyn
July 7, 2007

On the 4th of July, a Floating Pool opened up to the public at Brooklyn Bridge Park Beach. It's a 25 meter, 4 feet deep, 7 lane floating swimming pool in the East River. It's also viewable from the Brooklyn Heights Promenade. Floating pools and man-made beaches are a strange anomaly that I just had to see for myself!

You can rent an umbrella at the man-made beach.

With limited capacity, everyone can only stay in for an hour, and it's first-come, first-serve.

Age and height requirements apply.

Ramps lead up to the pool.

The beach is also equipped with a couple of volleyball nets and a soccer field.

You can see the Brooklyn Heights Promenade from the beach.

And this is the view of the beach and pool from the Promenade.

Over in DUMBO, the Japanese band BOREDOMS concert was being set up at the Empire-Fulton State Park. The concert was to feature 77 drummers, to perform a once-in-a-lifetime show on 7/7/07. Had I known it was free, I might have stayed to check it out, as you could hear the impressive sound check from the street.

Then again, the line snaked down the block and around the corner.

Interesting artwork on the old building.

Five bikes of various heights and colors locked up across the street.
