| New York Comic-Con 2007 February 23, 2007 My company was an exhibitor at NY Comic-Con (this was only the second year for this event in NY, but it's huge in San Diego). Matthew and I went on exhibitor passes, compliments of UGO. For fans of comics, fantasy entertainment and video games, this is THE event. For me, it was just an eye-full. |
![]() The convention was held in the Javits Center, which is quite an impressive building on the west side. We arrived just as they opened to the general public, and luckily we did not have to stand in the line that snaked around the building, as it was freezing outside. |
![]() Right away we spotted some serious fans. |
![]() Darth Vader and a Storm Trooper checked out the new American Idol video game. |
![]() What's a comic book convention without Marvel's presence. |
![]() And DC Comics. |
![]() It's Pokeman! |
![]() Dungeons and Dragons lives on. |
![]() There were a lot of toy and collectables exhibitors as well. |
![]() |
![]() A Thor bust would make our home complete! |
![]() Even Super Dog made an appearance. (I think it's wrong to project your geek-ness onto your pets) |
![]() Of course, every comics vendor in town had a booth. |
![]() You could also buy costumes and theatrical swords. |
![]() These hats were all modeled from animé characters. Too bad they didn't have them for little kids. |
![]() Iron Man was Matthew's favorite comics character. |
![]() Here's my company's game truck at our exhibit space. We held game tournaments all weekend. |
![]() The new American Idol game on display, complete with your favorite judges. |
![]() Boooo! It's Simon! |
![]() Not sure who this character was, but he shuffled his way around the show floor. |
![]() Smurfs on display. |
![]() Jigsaw doll, from the Saw movies. |
![]() This little character is called Dookie Poo. |
![]() 1928 Model A "Car-toon Truck" |
![]() Characters from The Simpsons |
![]() A hodgepodge of characters |
![]() Who's this guy? |
![]() Star Trek representin' at Comic-Con. |
![]() Views of the main floor from upstairs. |
![]() |
![]() After almost two hours, the show floor was filing up. |
![]() More costumed fans. I was surprised there weren't more, but I'm guessing Saturday and Sunday were the big days for the major fans. |
![]() Holy Batman! |
![]() Playboy Playmate Tiffany Taylor looked a little bored. |
![]() Matthew was really excited to see his favorite Iron Man illustrator, Bob Layton,so we ran downstairs to find some comics for him to autograph. Mr. Layton thought I was the best girlfriend for putting up with a day at Comic-Con. |
![]() After a couple hours roaming the aisles of uber geekdom, I thought I'd seen it all. But that was before I discovered the light saber fighting stage! |
| There were choreographed fights set to music, complete with costumes and storylines. I swear we'd died and gone to Star Wars geek heaven. |
![]() NY Jedi members demonstrated and explained some of the saber moves. |

![]() Many thanks to the fine folks from NY Jedi for topping off my first NY Comic-Con experience. |
| What a perfect ending to a perfectly geeky experience! Honestly, I can't forsake all the fans, because I was quite entertained by everything I saw, and I had a lot of fun. Can't wait for next year! |
