A Turtle Named Kitty
July 15-17, 2006

Meet the newest addition to our zoo! Following the pet-naming convention in this household, I've named this little dude Kitty. Just about the size of a half dollar, this baby red-eared slider came to us via Chinatown. Upon further research, I discovered it is actually illegal to sell turtles this small, but now that he's mine, I figure I can give him a better home than he'd have back in a Chinatown novelties shop, or in the hands of a family with young children. So take a peek at our little baby, I'm a very proud mom!

Here's Kitty! He's a little camera-shy now, but he'll get used to it, now that he lives with ME!

Say cheese!

Cute baby butt shot.

Today Kitty moved into his new habitat - our old fish tank (an old photo-processing tank). He's still contemplating how to decorate his new bachelor pad, but for starters, he's got a nice rock where he can sit and catch some rays.

Checking out the view (of the wall).

Getting comfy.

Venturing over to the other side of the tank!

The rock serves as a beach for sunning, which is essential for turtle health. It also has a little cave for exploring or hiding, depending on his mood.

Kitty (the cat) watches over his new sibling and namesake.
(Stay tuned for more photos of Kitty the turtle. One day soon, he will have his own section on this website!)
