Dinner with Dorrie and Sharon
August 29, 2006

My mom comes from a large extended family, with many cousins. Growing up, we'd see everyone a few times a year for family celebrations and New Year's. These days though, we might only see them every few years, if that. Mom's cousin Randy's wife, Dorrie, and their daughter, Sharon, came to NY to celebrate Sharon's 21st birthday. I was happy to show them a little bit of Manhattan and share some must-do's while visiting NY. We had dinner at Otto, and got reacquainted and caught up, since it had been at least 5 years since we last saw each other, and even longer since we actually had a conversation. Sharon is a student at my alma mater, UCSD, and is even majoring in Sociology, as did I, so we had tons to talk about.

Me with Sharon and our lovely heirloom caprese (heirloom tomatoes, fresh buffalo mozzarella and fresh basil).

Summer corn & fregula and funghi misti (mixed mushrooms).

Delicious spaghetti alla carbonara.

Yummy pizza with prosciutto and arugula.

Famous Olive Oil Coppetta - olive oil gelato
streaked with a bit of olive oil, strawberries, passion
fruit grenita, and sprinkled with Maldon sea salt.
Sounds funny, but trust me, it was decadent!
