Sakura Matsuri (Cherry Blossom Festival)
Brooklyn Botanic Garden
April 29, 2006

Sakura Matsuri, or Cherry Blossom Festival, is an annual event at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Traditionally, this celebration marks the beginning of spring.

Hundreds of people were out enjoying the sunny day, cherry blossoms, taiko performance, food tables, flower arranging, art, and bonsai display.

Elsewhere around the grounds, tulips are in full bloom.

The bonsai display was amazing.

In the Tropical Pavilion of the Steinhardt Conservatory, there are some very exotic trees and plants.

Like this papaya tree.

And birds of paradise.

Along the Lily Pool Terrace (which is in season in late summer), the Annual Border is a gorgeous rainbow of tulips and other tiny, colorful flowers.

Giant orange tulips.

In the Japanese Garden, large koi fish gather in a shallow part of the pond.

Pretty Japanese maple on the edge of the pond.

Back at the Cherry Esplanade to look at the gorgeous pink flowering trees.

What a great way to welcome the best season of the year!
