Big blizzard hits the Northeast!
After weeks of abnormally warm weather for January, NY finally turned into a winter wonderland.
February 11-12, 2006

Saturday night, we celebrated Megan's upcoming 30th birthday in Soho (walking up Lafayette St. towards the subway station)

By Sunday, late morning, New York had experienced 20 hours of snow, wind, thunder, and reported lightning. Kitty and I check out the snow from our kitchen window.

The screen of our front window was covered with snow.

By 2pm, the snow was still falling fast, and the yard behind our building was buried. Watch the blizzard in action.

Cabin fever got the best of us around 4pm, and we decided to venture out into the snow, even though it was still coming down.

Matthew marvels in the beautiful quiet of our street.

Snow plow making its way up 5th Ave.

All the neighborhood cars were buried, including this classic.

View down 6th Ave.

Residents cross-country ski down Flatbush, towards Prospect Park.

This is normally the entrance to the running/biking path around the park. Today, you can't see the road at all.

Snow won't stop this biker from getting in his workout.

Entrance to Long Meadow, Prospect Park.

The meadow is a vast, long field of white.

Playing in the snow.

Crowds gathered at the bottom of the hill to watch brave sledders.

Kids, big and small, flew down the little hill and caught air over the little "ramp" at the bottom.

Even the dogs enjoyed watching the fun.

Innertubes seemed to be the best way to fly down the hill.

An afternoon of fun in the fresh snow.
