Leaning in Amsterdam

November 4, 2007

As you wander around the streets of Amsterdam, you can’t help but notice many of the buildings are leaning. They’re all close together, so it seems that they hold each other up, but it is a little funny. Here are a couple I noticed.

W+K

The Weiden-Kennedy office in Amsterdam is a funny space, with multiple floors and staircases and a sense of fun. They are actually moving to a new building next month, which is, from what everyone’s told me, going to be amazing. Anyway, here are a few shots of where Matthew spent much of his days in Amsterdam.

Naughty Chocolates

The Albert Cuyp outdoor market is a huge flea market, where you can find anything from cosmetics, linens and clothing and souvenirs to organic produce, fresh meat and seafood, and sweets. I couldn’t help but notice these naughty chocolates at one of the stands.

Night Watch 3D

October 29, 2007

On one of my days wandering around Amsterdam, I stumbled on a 3D display of Rembrandt’s famous Night Watch painting. The 22 characters from the painting were commissioned as bronze sculptures in celebration of the artist’s 400th birthday, and can be found in Rembrandtplein, in front of the statue of the artist himself. The painting is in the Rijksmuseum.
