My trip abroad would not be right without a few funny food items. The markets in Croatia and Montenegro had a few gems. I didn’t try any of them, but of course, I had to snap a few shots. There’s no shame in my game!

Chocolate bar with rice, with Oriental packaging. This candy bar is nothing like a Crunch bar with crispy rice. Instead, the rice is more like puffed rice. I like Crunch better.

Enthusiastic fruity drinks - Yippy!

Weather prevented me from visiting the blue caves of Bisevo Island, just off Vis, so I had nothing to do but wander around Komiza and sip coffee at one of the many restaurant cafes lining the harbor. It was a very peaceful, relaxing day, if a little slow for my tastes. Nonetheless, I found this little town to be quite charming and sweet, even though the locals stared at me, the one and only tourist in town, as if I had two heads!

Vis Island consists of two towns - Vis and Komiza. That’s it. I did a little research before I arrived and decided Komiza would be the more relaxing of the two, so once my ferry docked in Vis town, I was off in search of the bus that would take me to the other side of this pretty little paradise. Little did I know this was so off season, I would be the only tourist in town! I was told there were no soba open this time of year, so I had to settle for the Hotel Besevo, the only hotel in town. Here were my first impressions of tiny Komiza.

Ironically, this vacation was meant to be an escape from my life in NYC, yet there was a film crew shooting a Croatian comedy here on this tiny island.

After six days of running between Croatia and Montenegro, and the urban buzz of Split, I was ready for some R&R. A friend had recommended tiny Vis Island over the very popular (and usually crowded) islands of Hvar and Korcula, although I’m guessing this time of year, any of the islands would have been just fine. At any rate, I took the suggestion and hopped on a ferry bound for Vis. Here are a few pics from the lovely ride over.
