Matthew celebrated his birthday in SF with Fez, but when he came home a few days later, I bought a slice of chocolate layer cake from our local Chocolate Spot, which is one of the best I’ve ever had. Any excuse will do for this little treat!

Matthew’s Mini-Birthday Celebration in NY
Can I Clean Your Windows?
This might have been very helpful when Matthew and I were in Puerto Rico last month. To make a long story short, the windshield of our rental car fogged up when we were 30 minutes from home, and no amount of scrubbing (inside and out) or running the defroster (which ran only cold air) worked. Even the three cops we hailed couldn’t help us, so we ended up having the car towed back. I’m currently in a battle with Budget to get that reimbursed. Now if only we’d had a pug with us!
Matthew Scissorhands (and Happy Birthday!)
It’s amazing how boys entertain themselves on a (nonstop) rainy day. During his latest visit to SF, Matthew convinced Fez to play barbershop, with Matthew being the barber. Fez was a good sport because it was Matthew’s birthday. Here’s a peek into the birthday festivities and a look at Fez’s new do.

What’s a birthday without a cake!

Note to self: Fez should never be in charge of birthday cakes.

I would never let my hairdresser booze it up before touching my hair, so this makes Fez seem extra brave. (Notice Matthew’s new specs!)

I guess Fez needed one more shot of courage before the big event.

The “Demon Barber of Mangels Ave.” in action!

So there you have it, here’s the before/after shot. What do you think? Should Matthew go for a career change?
Round and Round and Round
There are few things in the world that are more entertaining than watching a dog who is happy doing the most mundane activity.
(This also reminds me of how I feel on days when I have too many meetings and can’t get any work done.)
Two More for the Macias Clan
I wanted to wish a belated congratulations to my very good friend Guillermo (friends since we were 18!) on the arrival of his twin bambinos last month. Mason and Jackson were born on December 22nd and weighed in at a petite 4 lbs., 5 oz. (not bad for twins!). They are the newest members of a wonderful, extremely large family, being that their dad has 9 siblings of his own! So congrats to the ever-growing Macias family, and best wishes to Guillermo and Amy as they enter into this new adventure! I can’t wait to meet these precious bundles of joy when I go home next month.
