Night Watch 3D
On one of my days wandering around Amsterdam, I stumbled on a 3D display of Rembrandt’s famous Night Watch painting. The 22 characters from the painting were commissioned as bronze sculptures in celebration of the artist’s 400th birthday, and can be found in Rembrandtplein, in front of the statue of the artist himself. The painting is in the Rijksmuseum.
An Experience in Food
I’d read about De Kas and knew I had to check it out. This restaurant is self-sustaining, so they grow as much of their produce on the grounds and in the greenhouse as possible. The rest is purchased from local organic farmers and producers. Not all the food wowed us, but it was all good, and some of the dishes were excellent. It was the overall experience that impressed the most. It’s a beautiful concept and building, and I’d love to see it in the daytime.
Anne Frank Statue
I didn’t make it to the Anne Frank house, even though I’m reading The Diary of Anne Frank, and the house was just around the corner from the apartment (the line was down the street every single day). But I did see this lovely little bronze statue. On my next visit to Amsterdam, visiting the house will be a top priority
