I woke up this morning around 5:30am to flashes of lightning and loud, booming thunder. At one point, it was as loud as a shotgun in the building! The Bayridge neighborhood of Brooklyn experienced a real tornado, which resulted in a mess of downed trees and power lines. Staten Island also suffered from quite a few inconveniences from the storm, including flooding and power outages. And everyone was affected by transportation problems due to water or debris on the tracks. None of the trains that go through my nearby subway station were going into Manhattan this morning, so I worked from home. What mayhem!

Chaos at Pacific Street subway station, west side of the street. There were masses of people walking to the station, only to discover they couldn’t go anywhere.

And here was the confusion at the subway entrance I use. People were being told they could take buses into the city, but all the buses were so full they weren’t even stopping! I chose to avoid this altogether and went back home to work.
