Overheard in NY

July 25, 2007

I love this site - it’s rich with the best (funny) and worst (offensive or horrifying how ignorant people are) conversations overheard in NY. One day, while running errands at lunchtime, here’s what I heard from a girl walking behind me, talking on her cell phone:

“Hi, it’s Sarah returning your call. I’m in Noho… or Soho… I don’t know what ‘ho’ I’m in…”

So of course I had to submit it to OINY, and they posted it!

Meeting Aidan

July 21, 2007

I traveled by Greyhound to DC to spend the weekend with Rhodora (Rory), a good friend of mine from high school and college. We lived together for two years at UCSD, and later traveled through Europe for over a month. We spent the weekend catching up on our respective lives, old friends, and rehashed lots of funny stories from our old days in CA. I also got to meet her adorable baby boy, Aidan, who is a happy little baby. He shares his home with three big dogs, Sage, Samson and Sophie, who were quite friendly as well. Thanks to Rory, Scott and little Aidan for letting me come and play for the weekend!

Harry Potter Takes Manhattan!

July 20, 2007

Even fashionable Soho was not immune from Harry Potter mania! The day of the final book release, Scholastic hosted an event for wizards and magic on an entire block of Mercer Street. I couldn’t resist walking through to see all the fans who came out for an sneak preview of some of the book, only hours before it was available for purchase. Personally, I have greatly enjoyed the creativity and cleverness shown in the movies, but I have yet to read any of the books. According to all these people, I’m missing out!

Harry Potter Sign
The block of Mercer, between Prince and Spring, was renamed “Harry Potter Place” in honor of the new and final book release.
